'83 jams always rise to a roar with Phil on his new Modulus 6-string, Jerry's punchy leads, and Brent's thick Rhodes-Piano-sample-mixed-with-mellotron sound. Bobby started playing with a clean echoy effect during this tour, and it is always nice to here his little staccato plucks on the high end. Lots of loud chaos (Estimated outro!). Just sayin'.

Love your guide, keep up the good work.

Since you're in the 80's, I'd like to throw a shout out to one of my fav aud's, Lewiston, Maine Fairgrounds from 9-6-80. I have never heard them play anything remotely like the jam into Playin'. If you haven't heard this show, give it a few minutes of your time.Steve In Denverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14628505396491684702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-387936856129721233.post-82826386890168812482009-06-22T18:08:33.332-05:002009-06-22T18:08:33.332-05:00Bobby had a broken string at the beginning of Chin...Bobby had a broken string at the beginning of China Cat, and the band just kept rollicking as he got it changed. My aud copy (will have to check the source) has a guy that is cleary having himself a grand ol' time - near the mics and he sees an old friend named "Jim". the guy carries on for a while, and starts telling his friends that that was "Handsome Jim". I havent heard it in a while, so i may be off on the details, but it's definately the "handsome Jim show"!. I really enjoy reading your musical perspective.. its refreshing and like nothing else I have seen... I think we have found Lemioux;s sidekick

I would be super interested in reading about the background and stories from some of the tapers you acquire master audience copies from etc... Tapers like Rango Keshavan made huge sacrifices over the years to make these pristine recordings...

I know.. back in 1980/81 right before the GD allowed taping.. I attempted to record some JGB and GD shows and what a HASSLE!!! Sneaking in the recording equipment was so difficult and then having to mind the gear during the show required a certain level of mental clarity (eg no dosing) and made it tough to breakaway to hang w friends and twirly girls.. The final straw for me was when security tossed my out of the Capital Theatre in NJ during a smokin' hot JGB show....what a drag! Anything you can share on these great GD taping crusaders would be appreciated.. never could thank them enough over the years!

PS..Ironically, I came accross a mailer not too long ago in my attic that had your return address.. years ago we did some tape trading in the days of Mosaic and usenet... I vaguelly recall sending you some 73 boards from Crispy (Rye, NY).. where does the time go>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-387936856129721233.post-12715961955668827952009-01-08T17:13:00.000-06:002009-01-08T17:13:00.000-06:00This is a great show that I have recently discover...This is a great show that I have recently discovered thanks to Charlie Miller's new transfer of Rango's tape. I enjoyed reading your review. Whenever I listen to the transition out of Space, it sounds to me like they could slide right into New Potato Caboose instead of Throwin' Stones.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-387936856129721233.post-74743478104550183092008-10-02T08:57:00.000-05:002008-10-02T08:57:00.000-05:00As always, your review makes me want to replay the...As always, your review makes me want to replay the show - however, I think you hit the nail on the head regarding '83 for me: "He’s soloing, but well below the forefront of the music." You find this rewarding, but for me Low Jerry is a source of annoyance. And more than any other year, Jerry seems to be really buried in '83. I heard that he turned himself down quite often but don't know if that's true. But as a result, when I was going through the 83 Project on LL, I found myself aurally squinting and willing him higher in the mix rather too often. It's no co-incidence that he is nice and loud on my favourite shows of the year - 4/20 Providence and 7/31 Ventura. Anyway, love the site, look forward to the next installments.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-387936856129721233.post-81044713328401044182008-09-27T11:07:00.000-05:002008-09-27T11:07:00.000-05:00Well, I can't say I know exactly when I'll start i...Well, I can't say I know exactly when I'll start incorporating new stuff.
